July 1, 2004: Speak Out for America's Arctic

lakes in the Western ArcticJoin us in Arlington Virginia for your only opportunity to voice your support for America's Western Arctic!

The Bush administration has unveiled a shocking new plan to open critical bird and wildlife habitat in America's Western Arctic to accelerated oil and gas development. The places at risk are contained in the ill-named National Petroleum Reserve - Alaska (NPR-A). These lands are exceedingly remote, breathtakingly wild, important to Alaska Natives, and harbor an abundance of wildlife; including caribou, waterfowl, loons, eiders, black brant, and shorebirds.

The administration is holding just one public hearing on this issue outside of Alaska. Please join us on July 1st and show your support for wildlife and America’s Arctic!

Just by showing up, you send an important message about the importance of protecting our remaining Arctic wild lands. We also need people who care about protecting our Arctic wilderness and wildlife to come and say a few words about why leasing the entire area under consideration would be a terrible mistake!

We hope to see you there – and pass the word to your friends and family members!

* Send an e-mail to Jen Schmidt at if you plan on coming to the hearing so we can update you about the event as the date approaches.

And please help us spread the word!
