Camp Habitat Donation

Donate Now

Camp Habitat is a nature education program for young people, and takes place every summer at Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge. Your tax-deductible donation would support aspects essential to the Camp Habitat program such as scholarships; equipment, materials and supplies; the Junior Counselor Program; and transportation.

Camp Habitat is a cooperation between Friend's of Creamer's Field, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and Northern Alaska Environmental Center. Each summer, from June through July, 185 children spend a week learning about the habitats, plants, and animals of Interior Alaska. Our camp seeks to nurture the natural curiosity of children and encourages them to explore the outdoors with experienced, knowledgeable staff.

Camp Habitat relies on community sponsorship in order to provide this fun and successful summer opportunity. Your donation will help support the following:

•Scholarships: Scholarships are an important aspect of our camp, providing low-income families access to our program. In 2005 we provided full and partial scholarships to 19 children from low-income families, accounting for 10% of the campers that attended camp. Without a scholarship these children would not have been able to participate in the
Camp Habitat programs.

     • Equipment, Materials and Supplies: Money raised will help purchase outdoor equipment essential to our programs and the materials and supplies we use for our activities and projects.

     • Junior Counselor Program:
Camp Habitat provides teens (ages 14-17) the opportunity to gain experience as environmental educators and leaders in our Junior Counselor Program. Junior Counselors are paired with Instructors and lead groups of 8-10 children through a week at Camp Habitat.

     • Transportation: We have two backpacking programs aimed at teens (11-17 years old). These programs teach self-reliance and leadership skills, and they build self-esteem. Transportation to and from the trailheads adds a significant cost to the backpacking programs.

Without community support, this camp would not be available to
Fairbanks area children. Any donation you make is tax deductible as we are part of a 501(c)(3) organization. We recognize all of our donors in the Fairbanks Daily New-Miner, on a poster at all of our community events, at camp registration, and in community newsletters.

The experience that
Camp Habitat provides to young people is invaluable, teaching them to become responsible stewards of our environment, building self-esteem, leadership skills, and respect for one another. For more information please contact the Camp Habitat Director at the Northern Alaska Environmental Center.
